You might wonder at the title of this post, like what does the above term represent?
Well, I’d enunciate on that a little bit, so we’re all on the same page regarding this.
What does a lightbulb moment mean?
It means a moment of sudden realisation, an experience that makes you go “aha”, a period in time when one receives an inspiration or revelation, essentially providing you with clarity.
In the brief story I’m about to share, I had a lightbulb moment both literally and figuratively, as an actual light bulb was involved, which led to me having a realization about my faith life.
Real life Experience:
I had a strange incident some days back in the bathroom.
It happened that a long while ago, the bulb in my bathroom burnt, meaning the lights went out. I therefore had to use the bathroom mostly in the dark. However, it was fixed later.
Now here’s the thing: occasionally, I forget about that fact and still use the bathroom like that in the dark. But this morning as I was doing so again, a spark went up in my brain and I remembered that I’d had the lights fixed. I then went to switch it on.
The point I want you to learn is what happened afterwards.
The Holy Spirit dropped something in my heart and I knew it was meant to be a learning moment for me.
He said: “Why do we that have been translated into the light, still act as one who is in the dark?”
This singular thought rang true in my mind and I started to think and reflect on it.
Why do we indeed seem to forget who we are? Our positional righteousness? The gift of grace, a new stance to walk in the light…
Why do we still choose the old path, a dark one perhaps? Is it because we’re already so used to that life and system, forgetting that there’s a better way?
Our brains often need some rewiring, as much as our souls (mind) need to be renewed, and refreshed with the word of God. Telling us all that we are, and have received in Christ by virtue of His grace, and our salvation in Him through faith.
I’m thankful for the Holy Spirit, a gift to us and a quiet, steady presence there to guide us and help us remember the needful.
May we receive the grace and ability to truly walk in that newness of life, in the reality of His covenant promises for us. That we’d be light indeed in a dark world, not merely blending in, but shining forth as a beacon of hope, a better way and greater choice, the abundant life…
Teach us to rely on you sweet Holy Spirit, if ever we attempt to forget our new heritage.
